North Staffs Metal Detecting Club (Private Club)

Another of the country's 1978 vintage clubs, North Staffs MDC is a small private club that has been going for nearly fifty years. Rather than open digs, the club negotiates a fee with landowners for a day's detecting on suitable fields — ideally previously worked land of 40-plus acres within about 60 miles of Stoke.

They take land care seriously: rubbish and lead get removed, gates stay shut, and reportable finds are shared 50/50 with the landowner after a proper conversation. Farmers curious about the history under their fields are encouraged to get in touch.
