County Durham Metal Detectorists (CDMD)

Metal detecting club in Durham

Few clubs can point to a charity record like this one. Established in 2020, County Durham Metal Detectorists is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit group that has handed £28,000 and counting to the Great North Air Ambulance, with every event feeding into that cause. They were also among the first detecting groups to buy their own defibrillator, back in December 2021.

Digs happen quarterly rather than constantly — quality over quantity — with registration, a food tent and marshals out in the field. Newcomers and old hands are equally welcome, and the annual Christmas raffle has become a fixture.

Thinking of joining? Get in touch with the club directly using the links here — and if you're still choosing your first metal detector, sort that before your first dig.

Map shows the club's approximate home area (Durham), not a dig site or meeting venue. Contact the club for exact details.
